"We've Seen So Much From These Heights" by Devin Osorio @Moleskine Boutique | Moynihan Train Hall! 🎨✨
Join us on September 5th, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT, at the Moleskine Boutique at the heart of Moynihan Train Hall, 382 9th Ave Unit 130, New York, NY.
We will be showcasing and selling 64 hand-illustrated Moleskine notebooks, along with two original pieces on paper and special prints created by Devin Osorio specifically for this occasion.
The 64 notebook installation will be hand-painted with acrylic paint and decorated with hand-painted palm motifs. Osorio aims to focus on the histories of Washington Heights by nodding to the Wecquaesgeek people's ways of using their neighborhood and contrasting it with the Dominicanness seen now. Merging the interior with the exterior, the real with the fantastical/spiritual, and the past with the present, Osorio hopes to find connections between themselves and their communities.
For almost 20 years, NYC Salt has used creativity to inspire a young generation of diverse artists to be excellent in their craft.
Devin Osorio (1993) was a part of NYC Salt's first cohort of students in 2005 in Washington Heights. They is a multi-disciplinary artist based in the Lower East Side, New York City. Using shared and self-reflective symbolism, Osorio honors Dominican culture through shrine-like paintings that incorporate plants, animals and glyphs to create a visual vernacular of and for the Dominican American community.
Osorio’s work has been exhibited in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, London, Miami, Mexico City, and Madrid, at galleries including Calderón Gallery, Wave Hill, The AHL Foundation, REGULARNORMAL, Sotheby’s Institute of the Arts, Adhesivo Contemporary and Charlie James Gallery. Osorio has been included in auctions with the Bronx Museum of the Arts and El Museo del Barrio. Osorio earned a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design.

For the opening night, Chef Sammy Gay will be creating a selection of foods that translate the histories of the Lower East Side and/or The Bronx. Also, we're going to have cocktails created by Dietician, Nutritionist, and Community Leader, RD. Melanie Zuniga.
Also using an ethnographic lens for this project, compositional duo Christian Rodriguez and Sahiba K. Johar will be creating a musical piece that combines their anthropological and historical research.
Overall the night will be a celebration of culture and history, allowing multiple artists from various mediums to answer the same question:
What is the history of this place and how are we connected to it?
