On March 15th, NYC Salt embarked on a sunlit photographic excursion, beginning with a visit to the Jack Shainman Gallery to experience the awe-inspiring Gordon Parks exhibition, 'Born Black'. Inspired by Parks' seminal work, our students delved into the powerful imagery and thought-provoking essays showcased in the exhibition.
The display, inspired by Parks' 1971 book 'Born Black, A Personal Report on the Decade of Black Revolt 1960-1970', pays homage to the enduring impact of his photographs and writing.
At the gallery, we were immersed in a journey through pivotal moments in American history, as documented by Parks during a tumultuous decade. From the Civil Rights movement to cultural and social upheaval, Parks' lens captured the essence of a transformative era.
Buoyed by the exhibition's profound insights, we continued our photographic odyssey at Little Island, where the sunlit surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for our exploration.
Against the backdrop of the setting sun, our cameras captured a myriad of perspectives, each frame imbued with creativity and emotion.
As we reflect on the day's adventures, we are reminded of the importance of art in reflecting and shaping our understanding of the world.
While we eagerly await the unveiling of the stunning shots captured by our students, we invite you to join us in celebrating the enduring legacy of Gordon Parks and the transformative power of photography.
Stay tuned for more next week as we continue to explore, create, and inspire through the lens of NYC Salt.
